Back in the late sixties in Seattle Washington... There was a guy working in our shop that knew a woman welder in California that could weld anything to anything. Metal wise...... And then I heard about her in later years too. She must be an interesting person... Example... she would weld a piece of aluminum to a piece of Steel ... Or a piece of copper to a piece of stainless Steel. And then at a county Fair one time there was a guy soldering the hole in a beer can shut with aluminum repair rod.... It was so hard to do that almost nobody else could do it..... He made it look real easy and he did it in just 10 seconds or so. I'm talking the hole that you drink out of after you pop the opening ring .

I am looking for a mig welder, any recommendations ???

That was very creative! I love the handle and i like how you made the hinges. I made a stainless box for small scrap materials. I ended up buying a hinge because I couldn’t figure out how to make a hinge but I really like your idea.

Always get good inspiration from your videos, and this one reminded me to stop over-criticizing my work. As a blacksmith I have to keep reminding myself that I am not a machinist, I don't and can't produce flawless work. Sometimes the steel has its own ideas about where to go, and often the steel's ideas are more artistically pleasing than my original plan.

I think all of us tend to get a little picky when we find little flaws in our work. We start to fiddle around and chase perfection. If we get too "fiddly", that can induce more errors. A famous musician once said, "know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em". You're a wonderful artist. :)

You just made a custom, one of a kind, heirloom!! Of course it's not perfect, what is? And the features you did include, make it irreplaceable!! Well done in my book! Keep up the inspiration for all of us

I really enjoy stopping by to see what your working on. You made a great point at the end about "allowing for mistakes". I'm a bit OCD about my work and it negatively effects my enjoyment. My age doesn't help either. At 67 I still haven't found that balance between my drive for excellence and enjoyment. It can waste my time. Thanks for the tip!

As a long-time woodworker, and retired machinist, welding and sheet metal work is new to me, a problem I am now beginning to address. I recently bought a MIG welder and your videos are a great inspiration. This toolbox is an interesting idea. Keep up the wonderful work. Thank you!

Just what I needed to see and hear. I am not the only one figuring things out as I go! Hearing the struggle and concern in the present tense, and yet knowing how well it turned out, is so encouraging. There is so much to learn and so much to attempt. I wish i had done it years ago. It is frustrating and frightening to realize how much may get left undone.... 😮 Back to it!

Way cool! I had not (yet?) thought of using round stock for "skinning out" sculpture framework. May not work on current piece (eagle), but we will see.... Where were you 7 years ago when I was starting up new chapter as a metal artist!!! It is NEVER too late, but definitely more urgent as time goes by.... Thanks! Do good, be prepared, and stay safe!

I know you posted this a while ago but I just came across it and the timing is so perfect. I had a moment a few years ago where I felt a passion to do something and for the first time in my life was able to feel a direction from my own heart. I've never had that before and I've been trying to follow it. I don't think it's quite as specific as yours, I don't know if I'm necessarily supposed to be a sculptor but, it brought me to welding among other things and I know in my heart I'm supposed to create... I've been trying to work through my insecurities, fears, and just uncertainty in what my heart is telling me but I'm so glad I heard your origin story just now and kind of reset me back to my own a little bit. I know the answer is there for me somewhere and hopefully in a few years I'll look back in the path will be clear. It looks so much different from one side and the other
